Die gesamte Anlage soll 766 von dem M\u00f6nch Shodo Shonin gegr\u00fcndet worden sein, aber erst durch Tokugawa Ieyasu dem Gr\u00fcnder des m\u00e4chtigen Tokugawa-Shogunats von 1603 bis 1867 zu seiner heutigen Pr\u00e4chtigkeit gekommen sein. Die heutige Br\u00fccke wurde 1636 gebaut. Der Legende nach konnte der M\u00f6nch Shodo Shonin mit seinen Sch\u00fclern den Fluss nicht \u00fcberqueren konnten. Es ist das Mausoleum des dritten Tokugawa-Shoguns, Iemitsu, dem Enkel von Ieyasu. Dieser Bereich besteht aus einer Mischung von buddhistischen und shintoistischen Bauten.
